How to Free Up Memory on Your XTOOL Scanner

Is your XTOOL scanner running low on space or taking longer to process updates? Over time, unused vehicle software, downloaded update caches, old diagnostic reports, and saved screenshots can clutter your internal storage.

You don’t need an external SD card to keep your tool running smoothly. Use XTOOL’s built-in storage tools to safely optimize your device without risking system files.

1. Delete Unused Diagnostic & Special Function Packages

XTOOL allows you to remove diagnostic software or special functions you rarely use—such as specific car makes or extra language packs—to reclaim space instantly.

  1. From the main diagnostic home screen, tap Settings at the bottom.
  2. Select Storage Management. Here you can check your total Available Storage Space.
  3. Tap Clean Software to enter the management menu.
  4. Filter by category (Diagnostic or Special Function), Unused Time (e.g., 6 months, 3 months), or Language.
  5. Check the unwanted software packages and tap Delete.
Safe Tip: Deleting a software package only removes local files. It does not cancel your subscription. You can re-download any brand from the Update menu anytime over Wi-Fi.

2. Clear Downloaded Update Caches

If a software download gets interrupted or you want to clear out temporary installation packages:

  • In Settings-> Storage Management, tap Clear Cache (located next to Clean Software).
  • A prompt will confirm that clearing the cache removes currently downloaded diagnostic packages. Tap OK to proceed.

3. Manage Diagnostic Reports & CSV Files

Saved inspection reports, trouble code lists, and CSV logs accumulate quickly during daily shop use.

  1. Open the Report menu directly from the diagnostic home screen.
  2. Choose Report or CSV View depending on the files you wish to organize.
  3. Tap the Edit icon (pencil/square icon) in the top-right corner.
  4. Select multiple outdated reports and tap Delete at the bottom.

4. Delete Saved Screenshots & Images

Screenshots and captured images are stored separately in the system gallery rather than inside the diagnostic app.

  • Exit the diagnostic app to return to the Android Main Interface/Home Screen.
  • Open the Gallery app.
  • Select and delete unnecessary screenshots and images.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will deleting car brand software affect my subscription?

No. Your license and subscription period are bound to your device’s serial number (SN). You can check your remaining validity under Profile ->Subscription Services. Deleted brands remain available in the cloud for free re-download.

Do I really need an external SD card?

For most technicians, no. Periodically removing unused vehicle packages via Clean Software and wiping old reports in Report provides more than enough room for daily operation.
